| Notes |
- Bertha Jane married William Wallace Billings before they headed west from Nebraska in about 1868. She was expecting their child on the way. There was an accident on the plains of Wyoming. A gun accidently went off while someone was holding it, climbing down from a wagon. The bullet struck Bertha, killing her. She was buried on the plains. Later, when the rest of the family arrived in Oregon, her widowed husband married her younger sister, Sarah Rosalyn Phillips on 14 Apr 1873. They had a large family of 12 children.
