1899 - Backus Safety Check Hook Manufacturing Company
The Corporation purpose was the manufacturing of Hat & Coat Locks and other novelties.1908: The company expanded its machinery, building, and business was good.
1906 - Backus Automatic Pin Setter Company
J. Clayton Backus of Smethport patented a machine that he invented for bowling alleys. The machine that he invented was an automatic pinsetter and spotter for persons working in bowling alleys. This apparatus used a series of different weights and levers to make the user's job much easier. The pinsetter was used by simply placing the pins down below the pinsetter and turning a crank.
1911 - Backus Novelty Plant
During this time period, the Backus Company manufactured components for radio tubes, as well as the lighter cases and other drawn metal components. The company also made larger products such as parking meters and elevator parts.
